Make a Statement by Personalizing Your Front Door, by Laura Martin Bovard
At the heart of my design philosophy is the belief that beauty lifts our energy and makes for a better life.
Color is the foundation for all things beautiful — and this is especially true of paint when used in a harmonious and creative way.
Today, I want to share with you one simple technique I recommend to my clients that consistently creates a big shift of energy and lifts the heart:
Paint the front door an unexpected and happy color.
The color of your front door introduces visitors to the personality of the home. This color sets an intention, indicating to you and your guests the feeling tone they can anticipate once they cross the threshold. While it can be subtle, I always notice how happy I feel when I walk up to a front door that is bright, shiny and fresh. I like to think that clients who dare to paint their front doors in bold colors are fun, playful, and adventurous.
If you’d like more of this kind of lift in your life then consider taking the daring step toward selecting a bright color — and increase the intensity by choosing a lacquer finish. Lacquer makes color more vibrant, more alive. When you choose a playful color of lacquer, the combination can be exquisite, especially when the rest of the exterior of the home is painted in a neutral palette.
High-quality lacquer paint requires professional application skills. One of the reasons I appreciate partnering with MB Jessee on paint projects is the depth of knowledge and experience they have with specialty finish techniques. (Over the years, we’ve done all kinds of fun exterior and interior finishes together including Venetian Plaster and other decorative methods.) My clients always get fabulous results with the team of painters at MB Jessee.
If you are looking for a quick way to refresh the look of your home in time for the holidays, consider painting your front door in a vibrant lacquer color, like one of the ones shown in these photos.
Try it, and let us know if you notice a little lift in your heart when you hang your holiday wreath this year!
