Planning an Exterior Painting Project? Have Fun with Your Door Color!

As you can see in the photos above, we recently enjoyed transforming another local home here in the Bay Area. From a drab, forgettable color to a stylish gray, the curb appeal has been drastically improved.

Another unique element of this repaint is the door color that was chosen.

Check it out!

Going along with the trendy gray exterior, we added a bright, eye-catching orange for the door. It’s warm, inviting, and modern too. In fact, we shared it on Houzz and received a lot of interest, feedback, and encouragement, as well as some fun ideas about how else orange could be incorporated as an exterior accent color.

So, how about your own home? Would a more unique color work for your door?

Are You Staying or Moving?

If you’re painting purely for the sake of marketability, creating extra “wow factor” and value before your home goes up for sale, a more daring door color is either a hit or a miss. Your prospective buyer might absolutely love it, but typically a more traditional route is advised.

What Colors Are Used in Your Neighborhood?

There’s nothing wrong with blazing your own trail with a more vibrant option, but the tone of the neighborhood can certainly direct you toward the best decision for your home.

What’s Your Home’s Style?

The traditional architectural lines of a stately, older home often ask for more subdued colors, while modern homes are more receptive to walking on the wilder side. Take your property’s architectural style and age into consideration, and pick something that supports the design rather than conflicts with it.

Find a Door Color That Complements Your Home’s Exterior Paint

Remember, complementary colors are those that sit on opposite sides of a color wheel. Red and green, purple and yellow, blue and orange... Even though they’re very different, these colors do, well, complement each other. This is a simple way to get door color inspiration, and set you down the right path where you can then branch off to all manner of shades, tones, and other variations.

“Today I received a beautiful bouquet from your company. It was totally unexpected and very much appreciated--a lovely surprise. Also today, your crew finished my job. I am so pleased with all their fine work. Richard is absolutely amazing and a total delight to work with. He was also extremely helpful during the paint color process. The interior work in my home far exceeded my expectations. A big thank you to you and the crew for an outstanding job. Thank you, thank you for a terrific job!”

“I highly recommend MB Jesse Painting to anyone looking for a professional team that does an impressive job. They are on time, efficient and clean up well each and every day they are on site. They pay attention to detail and listen to the needs of their clients. In addition, they give back to the community. A Five Star team all the way around.”

— Erin Troy

“The completed 'Client Satisfaction Survey' we sent in only modestly reflects our total satisfaction with the work. As a retired small business owner, I compliment you on setting 'best practices' that are consistently followed. Everything described in your marketing materials was a reality! The crew is a super bowl team and our neighbors commented on how quiet they were. We are very happy to be a client of MB Jessee.”

“Our paint crew did a great job and the foreman, Gersson was exceptionally great to work with. He was always available to answer questions, good at problem-solving, very patient, kind, and highly professional with great customer service. We definitely recommend this company, and Gersson and his crew.”

“I can't say enough about how courteous and professional my foreman was. He was on time every morning and arrived cheerful and ready to go. He is highly organized and very thoughtful. He was extremely careful and respectful when moving my belongings - a mature professional.”

— Nora Robinson

“Awesome work by highly experienced, professional painters. They were: Conscious about the amount of time it would take. Ours had a lot of pre-work and took 3 weeks. Accommodating when we added a few last-minute changes Understanding when a heatwave hit and we remove some of the plastic sheeting over windows, which they had to put back up the next day. Accessible, especially the on-site crew (Hi Jose & Victor!) -- always answering questions and checking in. The end result is a perfect paint job that makes our 94-year-old house look brand new. I would definitely hire MBJ again”

“MB Jessee just finished our exterior and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The foreman (Pedro) and lead painter (Ricardo) were incredible to work with: they communicated scheduling clearly, Ricardo was a joy to be around every day, the showed up early every day, were incredibly tidy and did great paint work. The final walkthrough experience was incredible. Pedro pointed out items I missed demonstrating a clear desire to complete another quality project. I highly recommend them. As others have noted they definitely aren't the cheapest but you quickly realize that you're getting what you pay for. The 3-year guarantee is also a nice touch since there are likely touch-up items that will show up after the job is done.”

“Dear Matt,You must be so proud of your men! They were fantastic to have around. Polite, courteous and hardworking. I am so pleased with the outcome of our home--in fact, I couldn't be any more pleased than I am!”

“Richard and crew have been great, for sure. As much as I look forward to having the job done and my house back in order, I really enjoyed having them around. You should feel really good about how they represent your company.”

— Jessica Dodson

“Matt, Julie & Ricardo, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the three of you for the wonderful job you did in hosting the SFBA NARI Chapter Meeting on Wednesday evening. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Members and guests alike walked away with a truly positive experience. The "painter for a day" and the cookies in the paint cans were an absolute brilliant touch and received rave reviews. What a wonderful way to do such positive marketing. Thanks again for a truly memorable experience for our members and guests. You are valued as a NARI member.”
