2016 Color Trends - Interior Painting Ideas

Who decides what's popular? What makes a color choice trendy or bizarre? Is it consumers? Is it experts? Is it designers? Advertisers? Does the dog wag the tail, or is it the other way around? The truth is, a mixture of forces and factors drives the shifting trends of color. Pantone, however, stands out in this crowd. Every year, they announce a "color of the year" that begins to show up without fail in fashion, interior decorating and more!
Pantone's 2016 Color of the Year
This year, Pantone has broken with their previous patterns by naming a color combination (rather than a single color) as their 2016 color of the year. The two colors are Rose Quartz (something of a coral pink) and serenity (a soft, sky blue). Here is what Pantone says about these colors:
"Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace."
Using the Color(s) of the Year in Interior Painting
The obvious first suggestion for pink and blue would be a baby's nursery, where the colors give warmth and comfort in a pleasing balance.
The master bedroom is a less intuitive choice, but one that could definitely produce engaging results. Rose Quartz sheets with Serenity pillows, or Serenity walls with a Rose Quartz accent wall...
A powder room is a delightful place to emphasize the feminine side of this color combination, with Serenity accents providing balance and calm.
In the larger, main rooms of the house, these two colors would make a great pair as accents to a neutral color scheme. Pantone recommends Silver Gray as a good pairing, which would serve as a great room color with bright pops of Rose Quartz and Serenity.
When looking at accent options, Rose Quartz is an excellent color for throw pillows, vases, artwork and all kinds of attractive items. Serenity can also be used as an accent to bring more variety to a room, but it is also a safer color to use as the main color in a living room or guest bedroom.
Getting Help With Color Choices
For many San Francisco area homeowners, we want creative, unique, beautiful color combinations, but we're also nervous to make major color changes. We also don't have the hours it might take to come up with something we truly love. That is why many painting contractors offer color consultation services. A color expert can visit you in your home and offer you ideas you might not have considered. He or she can also give you insight into how various color combinations might look in your home.
Another useful service is on-site custom color matching. This unique service allows you to get colors made and applied in your home, so that you know you'll get precisely the right shades and sheens.
