Choosing a Paint Color for Your Kitchen Walls

Our kitchens typically give the most attention to the cabinets and countertops, and rightly so. After all, these items take up the most visual space, and they get heavy usage. That doesn’t mean, however, that we should neglect our kitchen walls! While they might take a supporting role in the kitchen drama, they still deserve to be beautiful. How do you go about choosing paint colors for your kitchen walls?

The first step is to choose the overall milieu you want to create. Are you going for spicy and creative? Stately and sedate? Airy? Trendy? Modern? Classic? The aesthetic tone needs to be clear in your mind before you choose specific colors.

White on White: Not as Boring as It Sounds!

In an age where so much is complex, some people bring simplicity and calm to their lives with an all-white kitchen. With white cabinets and white wall paint, the room seems to expand visually, giving an airy, open feel, which somehow feels both modern and classic. With some stainless steel appliances and colorful accents, the white on white kitchen can really shine!

Go Bold!

A very different approach to kitchen wall paint is to go with a striking, bold color. Since most of the kitchen is dominated by cabinets, the remaining wall spaces can really pop with a strong color choice. If your cabinets are white, just about any color can look amazing! Spicy red, citrus orange, lime green, jet black, ocean blue, metallic gray… choose something that will leave an impression!

Non-bland Neutrals

We all know that neutral colors are a safe bet for our walls, but neutral doesn’t have to mean tasteless! Sage green has been a great success in recent years, as well as creamy yellow, wheat-toned tan, and even chocolate brown. If your cabinets are wood-toned or painted, neutral wall colors are a great way to compliment them.
