Color Trends for 2018 – 4 Popular House Paint Colors
If you are thinking of painting your home this year, you might be looking for color inspiration. If so, you’ve come to the right place! We’ve been listening to the color experts, and we have four exciting color trends to tell you about. All of these paint colors would make fantastic choices for interior painting in a San Francisco area home.
Come to the Oceanside!
Sherwin-Williams has chosen Oceanside as their color of the year for 2018. This intriguing shade of blue combines serene tranquility with an underlying energy that leaves you calm, but not lethargic.
Oceanside could go nearly anywhere in the home, from the living room to the bedroom to the guest bath. It makes a striking color for an accent wall, but it would also work well for the main wall color. Kitchens and dining rooms are not typically painted blue, because it is not a hue that carries food-related associations.
For a crisp, classic contrast, use bright white trim to accent this paint color. It also looks amazing with pops of warm colors, such as yellow and orange. Oceanside also pairs well with greens and other blues.
Hot Enough for Ya?
Benjamin Moore’s color of the year it is called Caliente, which is Spanish for hot. This popular paint color sure lives up to its name! Bursting with energy, yet not overwhelming, Caliente brings richness and warmth to your home.
This paint color works well for interior or exterior painting. Use it for accents, such as a door or an accent wall. Or, use it for a whole room inside your house! In a kitchen with white cabinets, or a dining room with white wainscoting, Caliente is classy and eye-catching.
Black to the Future!
Black has never been a mainstream paint color for home interiors, but that is changing! PPG has gone with black tones for their house paint brands this year, with wonderful results. Their Black Flame shade is a bluish slate black, while Glidden’s Deep Onyx is a classy, greyish black.
If painting a whole room black sounds too dark, try starting with just an accent. Choose one wall, or some prominent feature in a room to paint black. Another striking effect is to go with a black ceiling. Just be aware that dark colors feel closer, which can feel cozy (a good thing) or cramped (not so good).
Not Your Grandma’s Purple
Pantone’s color of the year for 2018 is a striking shade of purple, called Ultra Violet. Cool, yet vibrant and rich, this color makes a fantastic accent in a stylish, modern room. Whether you use it for curtains, a centerpiece, a throw pillow, or an accent wall, it is sure to draw pleasing attention.
