Tip 1: Deal with it quickly
When graffiti is allowed to remain on a wall, it soon invites more vandals to add their own signatures to the surface. If you have graffiti removed quickly, it reduces the motivation for the perpetrator, since their work is destroyed. It also reduces the likelihood that others will use the same walls to express themselves.
Tip 2: Use anti-graffiti coatings
There are two main types of anti-graffiti paint coatings. A sacrificial coating is one that is applied after the paint, and is invisible to the eye. When a vandal spray paints the wall, the paint only adheres to the sacrificial coating, and it can be washed away easily. When this happens, a new sacrificial coating needs to be applied.
The other type of anti-graffiti paint is a permanent coating. This is more expensive, but it only has to be applied once. Permanent anti-graffiti coatings form a protective layer that spray paint cannot adhere to. The vandalism can be washed off with a scrub brush and a solvent, and the surface is left unharmed.
Tip 3: Paint a whole wall
It can be expensive to deal with graffiti, so some companies tend to just paint over the affected area. This does cover the markings and has a discouraging effect on the vandals. However, the look is quite patchy and unattractive when you go this route. Instead, paint the whole wall once, so that it is all uniform, and then use an anti-graffiti coating.
