Commercial Painting: Restaurants, Cafeterias, Food Service

In a metro region like San Francisco, there is a nearly limitless variety of businesses, which gives commercial painting a nearly endless variety in our work! Among the clients we serve, painting restaurants and food service areas can create some interesting dynamics and challenges. For example, these photos come from a commercial painting project we recently finished in Oakland, California.

Painting food service facilities extends well beyond restaurants:

  • Hospital kitchens and cafeterias
  • Nursing home dining areas
  • Coffee shops and delis
  • Corporate office cafeterias
  • Catering kitchens
  • Hotels and conference centers
  • School and university cafeterias
  • Food production facilities (factories)

Special Considerations when Painting Food Service Areas

One of the most important factors to take into account when we paint a restaurant, commercial kitchen, or a cafeteria is avoidance of food contamination. During our preparation stage, we need to thoroughly seal off our work area to avoid dust, paint, or chemicals getting onto food preparation surfaces. Also, we need to be painstaking in our cleanup phase once the painting is done, so that all food processing is safe and healthy.

Another key feature in areas where food is prepared or served is the odor. Nobody wants to be smelling (or tasting) fresh paint as they eat. That is why we are careful to use ultra low-odor paints with zero VOC’s, meaning the only smell will be your delicious food!

Finally, our scheduling needs to coordinate seamlessly with your operational schedule as much as possible. After all, nobody wants to miss a meal! That’s why our commercial painting crews are prepared to work nights, weekends, holidays, or whenever it works best for you, so that your downtime is kept to an absolute minimum.

Coordinating with Multiple Trades

When a food service area is experiencing a variety of renovations at once, it can seem like a crazy dance! All the tradespeople need to function in the same space, including plumbers, electricians, commercial painters, carpenters, and more, and every step needs to be completed in the right order.

MB Jessee is very experienced with this dance, and we deftly orchestrate our services so that we are not stepping on the toes of the other tradespeople!

Another way in which we can help this dance go smoothly is with our commercial carpentry division. When the carpenters and the painters all work for the same company, the coordination is much smoother and the job management is far simpler.

Customer Reviews

“Our paint crew did a great job and the foreman, Gersson was exceptionally great to work with. He was always available to answer questions, good at problem-solving, very patient, kind, and highly professional with great customer service. We definitely recommend this company, and Gersson and his crew.”

“The people at M.B. Jessee are great – from the painters to the office staff to Matt. Talk about leadership from the top.”

— Kevin Ames, Mark Becker Homes

“Matt, Julie & Ricardo, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the three of you for the wonderful job you did in hosting the SFBA NARI Chapter Meeting on Wednesday evening. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Members and guests alike walked away with a truly positive experience. The "painter for a day" and the cookies in the paint cans were an absolute brilliant touch and received rave reviews. What a wonderful way to do such positive marketing. Thanks again for a truly memorable experience for our members and guests. You are valued as a NARI member.”

— Judy Tufo, SFBA NARI Executive Director

“Richard and crew have been great, for sure. As much as I look forward to having the job done and my house back in order, I really enjoyed having them around. You should feel really good about how they represent your company.”

— Jessica Dodson

“I want to express my thanks for a job well done. The rooms look great and there is no problem with any marks on the all the trim, floor, carpet, etc. The paint job is lovely. I also want to express my thanks for the level of professionalism the foreman showed in running the job. He was very attentive to any changes I needed to make, was extremely careful in getting the faux paint color and effect correct. Thanks so much for a job well done.”

— Suzan D’Arcy

“The finish on my kitchen cabinets had failed, becoming tacky and grimy around the handles. M B Jessee gave me a reasonable quote, far below some others, and did an outstanding job, striping the original varnish and refinishing with a new lacquer finish. The cabinets look like new. Work was done 1 day faster than estimated. The crew was extremely hard-working, considerate, and neat. Highly recommend M B Jessee.”

“I just wanted to send you an email to say that John did such a great job over here today. He is truly a hard worker. He has the perfect balance of friendliness, honesty, and professionalism. I trust him. He takes the time to do the job to the best of his ability and that is what sets him (and your company) apart from the competition. He didn't make me feel rushed. He really made me feel like our job was the most important thing in the world. Thanks again!”

— Jo

“The completed 'Client Satisfaction Survey' we sent in only modestly reflects our total satisfaction with the work. As a retired small business owner, I compliment you on setting 'best practices' that are consistently followed. Everything described in your marketing materials was a reality! The crew is a super bowl team and our neighbors commented on how quiet they were. We are very happy to be a client of MB Jessee.”

— Richard

“I had my wooden kitchen cabinets painted white. Anabal and Danielle were doing the job. I have nothing but praise for them. They came on time, cleaned up every day, were respective, friendly and helpful. If the rest of Jessee's crew are as great as Anabal and Danielle, this company will go far.”

“My entire experience with MB Jesse was very professional. The crew were very friendly and super accommodating of my ridiculous schedule and geriatric pets in the house. The finished product, which was pretty much my entire house, far exceeds my expectations. Would definitely work with them again!”

— Heather Jordan

“I love the article in the paper on your company. Thank you for supporting our community by painting at the Claremont Middle School. Thanks!”

— Carla Banks

“MB Jessee just finished our exterior and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The foreman (Pedro) and lead painter (Ricardo) were incredible to work with: they communicated scheduling clearly, Ricardo was a joy to be around every day, the showed up early every day, were incredibly tidy and did great paint work. The final walkthrough experience was incredible. Pedro pointed out items I missed demonstrating a clear desire to complete another quality project. I highly recommend them. As others have noted they definitely aren't the cheapest but you quickly realize that you're getting what you pay for. The 3-year guarantee is also a nice touch since there are likely touch-up items that will show up after the job is done.”
