Hello, Curb Appeal! Exterior House Painting in Oakland
House painting in the Bay Area is always a satisfying experience, watching fresh colors roll out and surfaces be restored. But every now and then we finish a project that offers a particularly drastic transformation.
This was definitely one of those projects.
Carol’s Oakland home is beautiful, but it was ready for fresh paint and a cohesive palette. Let’s take a quick project tour below, and be sure to reach out with any questions about your own exterior painting needs.
How to prepare for exterior painting
As we always say, preparation is 80% of a successful project, laying the foundation for a beautiful finish that really lasts. Fresh paint should be attractive, but it also has hard work to do as the first line of defense against pest, moisture intrusion, UV damage, rot, and other environmental factors.
Here’s a look at our process:
Deep clean of exterior surfaces
Masking and protecting window glass and other nearby, non-painted sections of your home
Covering landscaping and plants
Scraping and sanding (a mix of work done by hand and with an orbital sander)
Caulking
Priming
Paint
Check out the full transformation!
What are the new house colors?
Just in case the project sparked a little inspiration, here are the specific colors we used, all from our friends at Kelly-Moore Paints.
Body: Rotunda White (KM5819)
Trim: Subway (KM4943)
Front gable: we used Subway for the outer frame, and Rotunda White for the center inset
Front and back door: Sequoia Redwood (gloss finish)
As a side note, these were picked with the help of a local color consultant that we often partner with. If you’re stumped when it comes to choosing paint colors, just ask for help! There are plenty of resources at our disposal (and yours!) to help you make the very most of your project.
