Using Interior Paint to Create a Successful Study Space for Your Student

Using Interior Paint to Create a Successful Study Space for Your Student

When we talk about interior painting, it’s almost always in the context of updating or refreshing style. From kitchen cabinets to living rooms, paint is a powerful way to transform your home while adding long-term value.

Beyond style by itself, it’s also important to consider the deeper power of color, and how it can influence our emotions, stress levels, and even appetite. A carefully-planned project has a far-reaching impact.

Schools and businesses have also tapped into this potential for power, carefully planning color schemes and interior designs around the purpose of the spaces they’re painting. They understand that painting can be strategically harnessed to positively impact their environment in specific ways for specific outcomes.

As we step into a new school year, this all led us to an important question: how can you use paint color to help the young student in your home?

Best Paint Colors for Focus, Creativity, and More

Before you start considering color options, it’s important to first think about both your child’s strengths and those areas where they may need a little help. For example, is motivation lacking? Do they grow discouraged quickly and overwhelmed? How about focus?

With this in mind, here’s a snapshot of how color can impact studying:

  • Red – Reds have been shown to assist with detail-oriented tasks, but too much can be overstimulating. How about using red as an accent wall or within decorations rather than as a dominant color?
  • Blue – Blue is relaxing, and promotes idea generation and focus.
  • Yellow – Soft yellow may be a relaxing option too, but it also sparks creativity. There’s a bit more energy here than blue offers.
  • Green – Earthy, natural greens are very relaxing to surround yourself with. This could be a perfect option for a student who gets easily frustrated or overwhelmed.

Remember to Get Your Child Involved in Their Study Space Design!

Kids love being involved in unique activities, especially when it comes to customizing their own spaces. As a side note, check out these examples on Houzz for a little design inspiration!

Here are a few tips (find even more here!):

  • Involve them in the decision-making process
  • Keep the space uncluttered except for a favorite item or two (depending on their age, this could be a stuffed animal, decoration, photo, etc.)
  • Include storage for all their necessities so that they don’t need to keep leaving to get what they need
  • Plenty of light
  • Quiet
  • Make sure they are aware that it’s all theirs - a sense of ownership goes a long away

If you need help with your painting project, be sure to contact a professional painter near you. They can offer insight, fun ideas, and a beautiful finish that you and your little student can be proud of.

Customer Reviews

“Very easy to work with, they did an outstanding job with our project of re-painting our painting our kitchen cabinets. Given the scope of the job and that our kitchen is roughly half of our upstairs living area they did a fantastic job of minimizing the mess. Workmanship was top notch, would definitely recommend.”

— Vince Scola

“Awesome work by highly experienced, professional painters. They were: Conscious about the amount of time it would take. Ours had a lot of pre-work and took 3 weeks. Accommodating when we added a few last-minute changes Understanding when a heatwave hit and we remove some of the plastic sheeting over windows, which they had to put back up the next day. Accessible, especially the on-site crew (Hi Jose & Victor!) -- always answering questions and checking in. The end result is a perfect paint job that makes our 94-year-old house look brand new. I would definitely hire MBJ again”

“The finish on my kitchen cabinets had failed, becoming tacky and grimy around the handles. M B Jessee gave me a reasonable quote, far below some others, and did an outstanding job, striping the original varnish and refinishing with a new lacquer finish. The cabinets look like new. Work was done 1 day faster than estimated. The crew was extremely hard-working, considerate, and neat. Highly recommend M B Jessee.”

“My entire experience with MB Jesse was very professional. The crew were very friendly and super accommodating of my ridiculous schedule and geriatric pets in the house. The finished product, which was pretty much my entire house, far exceeds my expectations. Would definitely work with them again!”

— Heather Jordan

“M.B. Jessee painted the exterior of my Spanish house over 9 years ago, and they did such an incredible job that they are still getting referrals from me today. The paint is holding up perfectly -- there is absolutely no peeling chipping or any other deterioration. I still remember that my final walk-through list consisted of items written on one side of a 3x5 index card (and I'm REAL picky about my house!) However, when Matt and I did that walk-through over HALF the items were no longer an issue, as his team had noticed them first and they had already been resolved.”

— JoAnn Newcomb

“I want to express my thanks for a job well done. The rooms look great and there is no problem with any marks on the all the trim, floor, carpet, etc. The paint job is lovely. I also want to express my thanks for the level of professionalism the foreman showed in running the job. He was very attentive to any changes I needed to make, was extremely careful in getting the faux paint color and effect correct. Thanks so much for a job well done.”

— Suzan D’Arcy

“MB Jessee painters are stellar! As a designer I've worked with numerous companies over the years, and MB Jessee is a top-notch firm. From the first phone call to the final clean up, every person is courteous, professional, and hard working. The owner, Matt, is a charitable leader who has instilled his team with integrity and honesty providing the customer with a first class experience at a fair price with a paint job that is guaranteed to last. I highly recommend MB Jessee. Thank you Matt and your STAR crew-Daniel, Rigoberto, Vicente, Edy, Pedro, and Mario, for a job well executed! Cynthia Brian, ASID, Starstyle® Productions, llc”

“Thank you for the support you have given the Women's Cancer Resource Center over the past year!”

— Margo - Director Women's Cancer Resource Center

“Just had MB Jessee paint the interior of our house and they did a wonderful job. They tackled some crazy wallpaper as well as painted some very high ceilings and walls. The whole process was quick and they did a great job! We are very pleased. I was also very impressed by the crew. They were very personable, kind and actually took pride in the work they were doing. In one of our conversations with the lead Ricardo, he actually told me he was very proud of how the rooms had turned out. I agree sir! It turned out great and it's not often you hear someone thinking of your home like they would theirs, and putting that level of work and quality into it. That made a huge difference in how I viewed this company. Ricardo, you were fantastic and thank you for the great job, we will be using you again.”

— Jeff M.

“Julie, by the way, I have never been so impressed with the service of a painting job before! It was like magical elves came and painted our walls without us having to do a thing! It looks amazing and just wanted to let you know how happy we are. Thanks”

“Julie,Just to let you know I am very appreciative of your crew catching the plumbing/mold problem. It was very astute of them. I wanted to let you know that again your crew has done excellent work here, please pass this along to Mr. Jessee. There are some bumps in the road here, but the painting and your crew has not been one of them. Their work is the only thing going right currently, and this crew is very nice and respectful. It is much appreciated. Thank you again.”

“Matt, Julie & Ricardo, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the three of you for the wonderful job you did in hosting the SFBA NARI Chapter Meeting on Wednesday evening. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Members and guests alike walked away with a truly positive experience. The "painter for a day" and the cookies in the paint cans were an absolute brilliant touch and received rave reviews. What a wonderful way to do such positive marketing. Thanks again for a truly memorable experience for our members and guests. You are valued as a NARI member.”

— Judy Tufo, SFBA NARI Executive Director
