Will Dark House Paint Fade in the Bay Area?
“My question is how do you keep a dark color from fading? I love the darker colors but am concerned with fading colors before they wear.”
See that photo? It got a lot of buzz on social media, and generated some fantastic questions. Our favorite was the one we highlighted above, posted by Linda. Very practical and relevant, especially since dark house paint colors are super popular, but we all know that our Bay Area sun can take its toll.
Time to dig a little deeper.
We sat down with Vincent, our Production Manager and resident painting guru, to get his take on it.
How Do You Keep Dark House Paint Colors from Fading?
Prep is important, as always, but Vincent says that the quality of your exterior paint makes the most difference.
It can be easy to go for bargain paint brands when you’re painting, assuming that there really can’t be a lot of difference between popular big box store products and the high-end stuff. But there really, really is.
Quality paint offers a number of key benefits, including:
Smoother, better surface coverage
Longer-lasting bond and protection
Higher-quality pigments and resin within the paint formula
Add this all up and you have an exterior house paint that won’t fade like the cheaper products. That’s a better investment for your home, and drives down maintenance costs over time.
