What's the Best Kind of Paint to Use in a Child's Bedroom? !
The likelihood that your child may have covered their walls with posters from floor to ceiling doesn’t change the fact that it’s best to go with a durable paint when it comes to painting kid’s rooms. Let’s face it, most surfaces in children’s rooms are guaranteed to take a beating over the years, and when they leave, the walls stay. Choose the right paint, and prepare your walls for the storm!
Satin and Semi Gloss:
Conventional wisdom would argue that satin on the walls, and semi gloss on the trim, doors, and windowsills are the best options for a child’s bedroom. Satin paint has a lot of great advantages: It’s texture provides just enough smoothness to make it easy to quickly wipe away fingerprints and other grime. It’s also easy to wash. As a water based paint, it’s can be easily cleaned with soap and water. It dries quickly and it’s easy to work with. And unlike gloss and other finishes, Satin hides imperfections very well. Oil based semi gloss paints are very tough, and they’re great for trim and doors because of their high sheen value and capacity to hold up well under constant cleaning.
Non Toxic Paint:
Eco friendly paint can also be a great option for kid’s bedrooms. They’re virtually odorless, and they also don’t contain any of the volatile organic compounds (VOCS) that standard paints have. Because they’re made from all natural materials like clay, lime, and milk, they are ideal for anyone who might be susceptible to getting headaches or having allergic reactions from more common standard finishes.
Chalkboard and Magnet Paint:
Lastly, chalkboard paint and magnet paint make an incredibly smart choice for kids rooms. To begin with, magnet paint takes care of the nail and tack damage that so often ruins the walls in children’s rooms. Anyone who has a kid knows that their tastes and interests are constantly evolving, and that means the wall decorations in the room are constantly changing and being rearranged. This often leaves a lot of holes. Magnet paint takes care of that. Posters, calendars, flags, and all sorts of things can simply be magnetized to the wall, instead of driven through with nails.
Chalkboard paint presents another solution to the problem. Kids like to color and draw on walls. Instead of fighting them, just let them! All you need is some chalkboard paint and they can color and draw as much as they like. Give them their own personal wall to decorate (deface), and then erase it. As a parent, chalkboard paint also proves useful for drawing calendars for events, lists of chores, and school project due dates. It’s a win win!
